Consultation

Initial Meeting

Our initial meeting provides a safe space in which you can begin to discuss what has led you to seek therapy at this time and what you would like to gain from the sessions.

I will initially ask a few questions in order to better understand you and your circumstances. We use our time to begin to talk about the issues that are troubling you and to determine whether therapy would be helpful for you.

The first meeting gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. You can find out more about counselling and psychotherapy, about how I work, and about my therapeutic approach.

We discuss my confidentiality and record-keeping practices, data protection, your availability to attend regular therapy sessions, session format, and we discuss therapy fee.

This first meeting gives us both a sense of how we feel talking with each other and helps us to decide whether we are comfortable working with each other going forward.

At the end of our meeting if we decide to proceed, we will agree the first session date and time.

If you decide not to proceed with therapy with me, I can provide information about other support that you can access from another professional or organisation.

Ongoing sessions

Fee

Following our initial meeting and agreement to continue with sessions we will meet weekly, usually on the same day and time each week.  Sessions last for 50 minutes.

We will use our initial meeting and first session to help us decide the type of therapy that would best suit you and to decide whether to engage in short-term or longer-term, more open-ended therapy.

There is no hard and fast rule as it is based around individual preference and need.  Short-term therapy tends to produce the best outcome when it focuses on one or two main issues.  In this instance, session attendance can typically range from 6-20 sessions.

Longer-term therapy may better suit your needs when there are a number of issues you want to address.

I ask £65 for the initial assessment consultation

Ongoing sessions are rated on a three tier scale from £60 - £70 per session in attempt to help with your budgeting requirements.

If finances are a barrier to accessing support please contact me to find out my availability to offer a reduced fee.

A small number of my sessions are offered at a concessionary rate.

I am registered with the following Health Insurers; Aviva, AXA, BUPA, Vitality. Please ask about accessing therapy via these insurers.

Cancellation

If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, I request you contact me at least 24 hours in advance.  In this event, I will always try to offer you an alternate session that week, when possible, to avoid charging for a missed session.

If you do not attend your session and do not contact me 24 hours before the session I will request the fee for the session.

Cancellations due to illness or emergency situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
